A New Jersey company is recalling Halloween-themed chocolate candy sold at TJ Maxx, Marshalls and other retailers because the packaging did not disclose that the product contained milk.

Crystal Temptations of North Arlington recalled its Chocolatey Eyeballs after discovering that candy containing whey, a milk ingredient, was distributed in packaging that did not identify milk as an allergen, according to a company announcement posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

People who are allergic or severely sensitive to milk could suffer a serious or potentially life-threatening allergic reaction if they eat the candy. No illnesses have been reported, the company said.

The recalled candy was distributed in New Jersey, Connecticut and 11 other states through Marshalls, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods and Sierra Trading Post stores. It was sold in 7-, 10-, 10.5-, 11- and 16-ounce packages.

The company said an investigation determined the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in its production and packaging processes.

Consumers who purchased the recalled candy should destroy it. Refunds are not available at the stores where the products were purchased. Consumers seeking a refund must contact Crystal Temptations and provide proof of purchase.
