Governor Jon Corzine?s (D-NJ) first full day on the job had him meeting with New Jersey mayors at the annual League of Municipalities Legislative Day.
The governor received a warm welcome but the state?s mayors were eager to discuss their concerns about the financial situations of many of their towns and cities. Officials say they are projecting a $5 to $6 billion budget shortfall.
The mayors say that this shortfall could mean less state funding and may force them to raise property taxes. The governor says one of his top priorities is to reform the system. Local officials hope he can and plan to do their best to hold Governor Corzine accountable.
