A Kane In Your Corner investigation is getting results for those who live near some of New Jersey’s most dangerous dams. The communities are now getting the money they need to get those dams restored.

The Lake Winona Dam is one of the 51 dams rated as being both in poor condition and at high risk to people and property. Funding designated to fix Lake Winona and 17 other dams was approved years ago but has been held up in Trenton.

Following a Kane In Your Corner investigation last month, state lawmakers passed legislation to release the funds and Gov. Phil Murphy signed it into law.

“It's been a long time coming. The damage to our dam happened in 1999 as a result of Hurricane Floyd. So, it's been quite a journey for us,” says Cortney Davis, of the Lake Winona Civic Association. “We want to thank all of those that are involved that helped us get to this point, including Kane in Your Corner, to be able to bring light to this issue and finally get the bill moving.”

The upgrades will be paid for with $28.7 million in unused funds from flood control and clean water bonds.

Do you know something that needs to be investigated? Here’s how to get Kane in Your Corner.
