Gov. Phil Murphy has set the dates for a special election to fill the seat left open by Mikie Sherrill in New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District.

Sherrill resigned Thursday night after becoming governor-elect.

The special primary is set for Feb. 5, 2026, and the general election will be April 16, 2026.

Early voting for the primary runs Jan. 29 through Feb. 3, and early voting for the general runs April 6 through April 14.

Candidates looking to run in the primary need to file by Dec. 1 and collect 500 valid signatures. Independent candidates have until the primary date to file and need 250 signatures to get on the ballot.
