Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill announced Thursday that New Jersey Transit president and CEO Kris Kolluri will retain his role once she is sworn in. Sherrill also announced that she has nominated Kolluri to be the executive director of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority.

The governor-elect says that the dual role will allow Kolluri to “oversee day-to-day operations of both agencies to unify strategy, rethink how we move people, and ultimately improve commutes for the residents of New Jersey.”

“By overseeing both agencies, particularly for a major security event like the World Cup, I’ll be able to ensure that we eliminate silos and are working in lockstep to provide better service to the people of New Jersey and those visiting our state,” Kolluri wrote in a statement.

Kolluri was appointed to lead NJ Transit nearly a year ago on Jan. 16, 2025.

If he is named as lead of the Turnpike Authority, Kolluri will take a $1 salary from the agency, according to a statement.
