A public service announcement by Governor Corzine reminding drivers to buckle up is hitting televisions across New Jersey Thursday.
The announcement arrives just in time for the Memorial Day weekend and during the statewide Click it or Ticket campaign. The governor teamed up with the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration to produce the message.
In the ad, Corzine tells viewers about his injuries from his accident and says, "I'm New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine and I should be dead." He is seen walking on crutches and also tells viewers, "I have to live with my mistake. You don?t. Buckle up."
Most residents say they are happy to see the governor stepping up, admitting he made a mistake and trying to keep others from doing the same.
Corzine broke his leg, 11 ribs, his sternum and his collarbone when the SUV he was in was involved in a crash on April 12. He was not wearing his seat belt at the time. He spent 18 days in the hospital and is continuing to recover from his injuries.
