Although New Jersey's gas tax went up over 4 cents on Jan. 1, gas prices have gone down.

According to gasbuddy.com, a barrel of crude oil is $58.32.

That low price, along with what is called a seasonal winter slump, has led to falling gas prices - even with the state tax increase.

The state gas tax was increased as part of the funding for the Transportation Trust Fund. Money used to repair and improve transportation infrastructure.

Some analysts predict we will continue to see low gas prices throughout 2026.
