Police and Trenton?s mayor are working to curb a recent string of shootings, which officials believe is gang-related.
Authorities say innocent bystanders, like an 8-year-old girl who is recovering from being shot in the face, are caught in the middle of a turf war between rival factions of a gang. Police say six people, including some of the intended targets, have been shot since Wednesday in New Jersey?s capital.
Mayor Douglas Palmer (D-Trenton) and 14 other New Jersey mayors will meet with Governor Jon Corzine (D-NJ) Wednesday to access the situation of increasing violence in their cities. In the meantime, police have increased patrols. They say they have made 100 arrests, many of them are gang members.
