A dance-a-thon fundraiser and holiday toy drive were held Thursday in honor of a beloved Newark street performer who was gunned down last month.
The event honored Eric "Uggie" Bowens, who was gunned down on Nov. 7. It was held in the Terrace Ballroom at Newark Symphony Hall. Those who attended were asked to bring an unwrapped toy as admission, which will be given to children in need this holiday season.
Bowens was well known throughout Newark and hundreds of residents attended his funeral.
No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Essex County Crime Stoppers is offering up to $20,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment.
