President Bush?s recent call for a reduction in public housing funds sparked an affordable housing summit in Newark Friday.Housing authorities throughout New Jersey began laying off workers and making other cuts after Bush announced a 25 percent reduction in public housing funds. On Friday, a meeting was held at the Metropolitan Baptist Church in an effort to reverse Bush's decision. U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) called on the president to stop spending so much money in Iraq and make sure U.S. residents are getting the money they need to live a decent life. Representatives from Jersey City, Paterson and other New Jersey towns also attended the summit.
