After a month-long search, U.S. Marshals have arrested a man in connection with a violent assault aboard an NJ Transit train in Jersey City.

Anthony Robinson, 29, was arrested Thursday morning at the Booker T. Washington Houses in Jersey City. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to U.S. Marshals, Robinson violently assaulted a man with a hammer on a train at the MLK Light Rail Station. The victim suffered serious injuries. Following the attack, authorities say Robinson fled the scene and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

“This was a deliberate act of violence that posed a serious threat to public safety, to the victim and every commuter,” said Nicholas Ricigliano, acting U.S. marshal for the District of New Jersey. “Let this arrest serve as a clear message that individuals who commit violent crimes and attempt to evade justice will be relentlessly pursued and brought into custody.”

The investigation and arrest were the culmination of a joint effort by U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force and NJ Transit Police.
