A community in mourning is coming together after a fatal accident on Route 9 in Old Bridge on Wednesday.
Freehold resident and pizza shop employee Arturo Luna, 33, was driving home with his family at Route 9 in Old Bridge when they were struck by a stolen vehicle. He died in the crash. His wife, father and children were rushed to the hospital.
Police said the other vehicle involved was stolen last month in New Brunswick and was allegedly being used to burglarize cars in Marlboro the night of the crash. Officers responded to the burglaries that night and gave chase until the crash in Old Bridge.
Samuel Villar, 19, of Somerset, and a 17-year-old juvenile have been arrested and charged in connection to the crimes.
The loss of Luna has devastated his community and coworkers at the Pizza & Pasta Factory in Marlboro.
“Since he was a boy, he’s been with me. He was a teenager when he started - now a 33-year-old man with a wife and two beautiful kids. We are very heartbroken,” said the restaurant’s owner, Antonio Romeo DiSantillo. “He was our face here. He knew everyone by name, by voice on the phone and by their orders.“
DiSantillo set up one of two GoFundMe pages for Luna’s family, which has already raised thousands to help with funeral costs and medical expenses.
Luna’s wife, their two daughters and his father are still recovering from their injuries.
