Friends and family gathered at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Asbury Park Wednesday to celebrate the life of Tamara Seidle.
Police say Seidle was shot and killed Tuesday by her ex-husband who was a police officer.
People who knew her say she was a woman of faith and hope. They say she lived for her nine children and her church.
"The parish is crying, so we're grieving," says Father Miguel Virella.
The Seidles were recently divorced.
On Tuesday, Neptune Police Sgt. Phillip Seidle allegedly chased his ex-wife in his car for several miles before shooting her several times in front of their 7-year-old daughter. The daughter was in Sgt. Seidle's car at the time of the shooting. The situation unfolded on Sewall Avenue in Asbury Park.
Friends of Tamara say she tried several times to get temporary restraining orders against her ex-husband, but was denied. News 12 New Jersey is looking into these claims.
Friends also say Tamara was an advocate against domestic violence.
Sgt. Seidle pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and endangering the welfare of a child in Monmouth County Court Wednesday afternoon.
He remains in the Monmouth County Jail on $2 million bail.
