The first of five people charged in the drinking death of a Rider University freshman was arraigned Wednesday.
Adriano DiDonato?s lawyer, Paul Norris, entered a plea of not guilty at his arraignment. DiDonato, 22, was the house manager at the fraternity where Gary DeVercelly Jr. pledged and later died from alcohol poisoning in March.
Norris said his client?s title does not mean DiDonato is automatically responsible for DeVercelly?s death.
DiDonato is the first of five to appear in court for the hazing death. The others charged in the case are:- Ada Badgley, 31, of Lawrenceville, the university's director of Greek Life - Anthony Campbell, 51, of Lawrenceville, the dean of students - Dominic Olsen, 21, of Kenilworth, pledge master of Spring 2007 Phi Kappa Tau pledge class - Michael J. Tourney, 21, of Randolph, the fraternity chapter president
All five men are facing a charge of aggravated hazing.
Campbell is set to appear in court Thursday.
DeVercelly?s family members have said they want someone held responsible for their son?s death.
So far, Rider University has not taken any action against any of the indicted students or administrators.
