Franklin Township man charged with fatally strangling his daughter

A 71-year-old Franklin Township man was formally charged with murder in the strangulation death of his 40-year-old daughter in June.
Dennis J. Hall was indicted this week on a first-degree murder charge. According to the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, Franklin Township police were called to a home on East Avenue on June 11 after receiving a 911 call from Hall, who said his daughter wasn’t breathing.
“He admitted on the call to emergency services that he had strangled the victim,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
When first responders arrived, they attempted life-saving measures on the victim. She was transported to a local hospital, where she died on June 12 as a result of her injuries. A medical examiner later determined that her cause of death was asphyxiation.
Hall was arrested at the scene immediately following the incident and charged with attempted murder, but authorities amended the charge to murder following his daughter’s death. If found guilty, Hall could face a maximum penalty of life in prison.
