A four-alarm fire ripped through seven buildings in Jersey City early Monday morning.

Fire officials say the fire started in a deli at the corner of West Side Avenue and Fairmount Avenue. The buildings are home to several businesses and several apartments. Firefighters were able to stop the flames from spreading to 10 other homes nearby. They say the cold weather made it harder to get the blaze under control.

Those inside the buildings were able to evacuate safely. One firefighter suffered minor injuries. The front of one of the building?s collapsed as a result of the fire. Fire officials expect more to collapse. At least 36 people have been displaced. Officials say that none of the buildings or homes involved in the blaze are salvagable.
