A 43-year-old woman has received five years in prison for having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old boy, a student she met while working as a substitute teacher at a public school, according to Burlington County prosecutors.
Prosecutors say Kameelah Kareem, of Willingboro Township, pleaded guilty earlier this year to sexual assault. An investigation began in early 2021, according to prosecutors, when authorities were made aware of the relationship that happened during the 2019-2020 school year while Kareem was a substitute teacher at the Alternative School at Bookbinder in Willingboro.
Prosecutors say the investigation revealed Kareem interacted with the student on multiple occasions outside of school. They say further details have been withheld to protect the student’s identity.
