Fire engulfs New City home, killing dog and displacing families

A fire completely engulfed a New City home Saturday morning, displacing 10 to 12 people and killing a dog, according to Chief Christopher Bowers of the Hillcrest Fire Department.
New City, Spring Valley, Nanuet and Hillcrest fire departments all responded to a residential fire at 1 West Burda Pl. at 4:18 a.m.
Upon arrival, crews determined the blaze likely started outside the home near a deck.
Fire crews confirmed there were no injuries, but a dog has died.
The house had no smoke detectors present, according to Rockland County Fire Coordinator Christopher Kear.
The American Red Cross registered four households for emergency assistance.
The Clarkstown Fire Inspectors’ Office is investigating the incident.
