Chestnuts may not be the only thing roasting on an open fire in New Jersey this holiday season.
The sky-high price of home heating oil is prompting homeowners to transition away from burning gas and burn firewood instead.
Amy Mocarsky says she made the change after discovering a transition to gas or electric would cost nearly $20,000.
"I know it can't be the complete alternative to oil heat because I won't be home 24/7, but while I am home, I'm going to be burning firewood to help and decreasing that cost."
