Firefighters in Trenton and Hamilton Township are trying to give local soldiers readying to head overseas with the U.S. military a taste of home to take with them.
The firefighters are selling T-shirts in support of the 50th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, a New Jersey National Guard unit with about 3,200 members expected to be deployed to Iraq in June.
For every $15 participants put down, they receive a shirt and two go to the soldiers. The firefighters say they want to let the soldiers know that people at home in the states support them and await their safe return.
The firefighters hope to deliver the shirts before the troops are deployed. About 500 shirts were sold in the first week, but another 1,100 must be sold in order to reach their goal before June.
