(03/14/06) EDISON ? Firefighters were called to the scene of a massive fire at an apartment complex on the Edison-Piscataway border Tuesday night.
Firefighters say the flames broke out at approximately 6 p.m. at the Rivendell Apartment Complex. According to witnesses, smoke quickly turned into raging flames due to high winds throughout the area. Firefighters were forced to temporary pull back from the structure due to the intensity of the flames.
Despite the size of the fire, no one was killed in the incident. Firefighters say smoke detectors in the complex functioned properly and alerted tenants. According to firefighters, many of the facility?s residents were still commuting home from work when the flames broke out.
