A fire Thursday ripped through a three-story apartment building in Jersey City.The blaze on Ocean Avenue destroyed renovation work that was in progress in two apartments. Firefighters arrived around 4 a.m. to fight the fire, but were forced to battle it from outside. The stairs to the building had been taken out as part of the renovation project. The firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading and only one firefighter suffered minor injuries. Some stores on the first floor of the building were also damaged. Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
