A fire outside Newark Penn station disrupted train service during Thursday's evening rush.
According to a spokesperson for the Newark Fire Department, firefighters put out a small fire on Track No. 3. at the station at around 4 p.m. The fire closed two tracks and suspended train service between Newark and New York for a time.
Once service started up again, there were delays of up to 45 minutes. New Jersey Transit and PATH were cross-honoring tickets during the disruption.
The service disruption comes on the heels of last month's multiday service disruptions due to power issues on Amtrak tracks.
