Officials say there was a fire overnight in Asbury Park at what was believed to be an abandoned Church rectory. Officials say one person was rushed to the hospital after they were found inside.
Fire officials tell News 12 the person they got out the building was conscious and alert when they transported them to a local hospital.
The fire happened in the back rectory building of the old Holy Spirit Church rectory on Second Avenue just off Main Street.
There are apartments behind the fire location which were evacuated.
The chief added that they got the call around 12:30 a.m. and initially went inside the building with hoses, but a collapse of some kind led to pulling his firefighters back out.
News 12’s Tony Caputo is on scene and has updates this morning.
