A fire badly damaged a home in the Holiday City section of Toms River on Wednesday afternoon.
The fire broke out around 1:40 p.m. inside a home on Tortola Street in a 55+ community.
Neighbors tell News 12 New Jersey that they saw their neighbor being taken out of the house on a stretcher. They say that different parts of his body appeared to be burned and that he appeared to be unconscious.
The exact cause of the fire was not immediately known.
“The smoke was spilling out of that side window. We just kept knocking…but nothing, nothing at all,” said neighbor Bruce Buxdaum.
Buxdaum says that he would often see his neighbor walk his German Shephard around 8 a.m. each morning. He says that this wasn’t the case this Wednesday.
“I know his body was all burned and stuff and the ambulance took its time leaving. I kind of figured he was gone," says Buxdaum.
Authorities have not confirmed if anyone was killed in this fire.
News 12 has reached out to officials for further information and is waiting to hear back.
