(01/31/06) JERSEY CITY ? Department of Homeland Security officials are preparing to install a new security system in Jersey City?s Exchange Place PATH station.
The installation in Jersey City is a test of new metal and bomb detectors. Those involved with the new system say Exchange Place was chosen due to the large number of passengers that pass through the facility daily. Department of Homeland Security officials want to see if the new equipment can keep up with the 15,000 commuters that use Exchange Place every day.
If the new screening measures back up lines, they will be suspended temporarily. Those wishing not to be screened can access the train platform by using an elevator instead of the normal entrance. The screening will start February 7 and run through March 1.
