Most voters in New Jersey want Sen. Bob Menendez to resign before the end of his term, according to a new poll by Fairleigh Dickinson University.
The poll says about 70% of residents feel Menendez should resign ahead of a potential reelection bid next year. The loss of support is across the political spectrum but is seen mostly in independents.
Menendez is set to appear in a federal courtroom Monday. He's expected to enter a plea deal. Menendez already pleaded not guilty to bribery charges.
A spokesperson for Menendez reacted to the poll in a statement.
“The FDU poll is fundamentally flawed – reflecting the reality that the public has only seen a limited set of facts presented by the prosecution to be as salacious as possible. Once the truth is known and the real facts are presented, the polling will change once the senator is found innocent," the spokesperson wrote.
