Three firefighters are recovering from injuries they sustained while responding to a three-alarm fire at a Chinese restaurant in Sheepshead Bay.
Authorities say the fire began inside the basement of Chopstix Chinese restaurant around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday.
130 firefighters rushed to the scene as the flames spilled over to the army recruitment center next door.
Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control around 9 p.m.
"The fire is now under control. We had several sections of the roof to open off to make sure we got all the extensions of the roof area. So, it was difficult opening the roof and we had to spend some time doing that, but the fire is under control this time,” said FDNY Assistant Chief Kevin Brennan.
Residents who witnessed the fire were shocked and disheartened to see the restaurant damaged.
“The people who work there are very nice. It’s a community staple that’s been ruined by a fire,” said neighbor Angel Suarez.
The FDNY says the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
All three firefighters had minor injuries and are expected to be OK.
