Officer John Hernandez allegedly sold the pain reliever oyxcodone, which is a powerful drug that gives users a heroin-like high. According to the FBI, Hernandez filled 11 prescriptions for the drug and also sold blank prescriptions he received from a doctor. Agents say they caught the officer in the act in Bayville, New Jersey.
Hernandez is an 11-year veteran and faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted. Newark police officials have suspended the officer without pay. Hernandez was released on $50,000 bond.
