The father of a 2-year-old boy killed in an alleged drunk driving crash involving an off-duty Jersey City police officer is demanding justice Friday.
On Saturday, Carlos Zelaya will return to Honduras to bury his son, Jose Carlos. The boy died from injuries he suffered in the January 23 crash. Off-duty Police Officer Kevin Freibott was charged with aggravated manslaughter and drunk driving for the incident. Police say Freibott was drunk and speeding when he rear-ended the Zelayas? vehicle on Pulaski Skyway. Zelaya?s wife has been in a coma since the crash.
Zelaya?s lawyer says his client plans to sue Jersey City, the police department and the mayor. Zelaya contends Freibott had a terrible work record and was given special treatment because he is related to Jersey City Mayor Jerry Healy. Mayor Healy had no comment on the case.
