The two families who lost 10 loved ones in the fatal Woodycrest Avenue fire thanked New York City for reaching out to them in a time of need.
Moussa Magassa addressed the media Friday and expressed his appreciation to all the departments and groups who have helped him after the blaze. After the press conference, community members, elected leaders and families gathered for prayers and remembrance at the Islamic Cultural Center on East 166th Street. State Senator Chuck Schumer, Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion Jr., and the Mali ambassador to the United Nations were all in attendance.
Meanwhile, Mamadou Soumare?s attorney says his client is preparing for a trip back to Mali, where he plans to stay for a few months. The attorney says if Soumare wants to come back to the United States, which he plans to do, he must do so by July.
