(05/19/06) ELIZABETH ? The relatives of two children killed in a fatal hit-and-run accident are pleading for any possible eyewitnesses to step forward.
Two-year-old Hector Montes and 5-year-old Vanessa Montes were fatally struck late Thursday while crossing St. Georges Avenue, near the Roselle-Linden border, with their mother. Police say a vehicle struck all three individuals, then sped away. The impact sent the children flying and knocked a shoe off one of the young victims. The children?s mother survived the incident and was released from the hospital Friday.
At a news conference, the children?s aunts called for the public?s help in bringing the driver to justice. Investigators say they are looking for a white vehicle, possibly a car, with front-end damage on the right side. Anyone with information is urged to call the Roselle Police Department at (908) 245-2000 or Crime Stoppers at (908) 654-TIPS.
