(09/04/06) NEWARK ? Employees at a Newark taxi and limousine service say they are living in fear following the murder of a co-worker Sunday night.
Police found 41-year-old Rafael Caimayo lying in a pool of blood inside the EquAmerican Express Service building. Another person was injured in that shooting. Caimayo, a dispatcher who was with the company for 10 years, was shot and killed. EquAmerican employees describe Caimayo as a good father and a nice man. All of the company?s cars were grounded Monday for a day of observation.
Workers say the shooting highlights the dangers of working as a taxi driver. Two EquAmerican drivers were previously shot and killed during a robbery attempt in 2005. Caimayo is survived by a wife and two children.
Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call the Newark Homicide Squad at 973-733-5400 or the Essex County Prosecutor's office at 973-621-4700.
