A family that survived the devastation of Hurricane Katrina a year ago this week is being welcomed with open arms in North Plainfield.
Levitz furniture store gave the Gonzalez family $10,000 to make their apartment into a home. Herberto and his family strolled the sales floor and say they are grateful they escaped the floods in New Orleans.
Herberto is working in a factory and his wife is studying to be a nurse?s aid. The family says it?s happy to call New Jersey home.
