Public sorrow and disgust is growing over the deaths of 2-year-old Hector Montes and his sister 5-year-old Vanessa Montes. Police say the children were crossing St. Georges Avenue with their mother when a driver hit them on May 18. The children died, but their mother Florinda Linares survived her injuries. Neighbors complain the busy street is hard to cross. State officials promise to make safety upgrades.
Police are looking for a large white car with front-end damage. Anyone with information about the crime is urged to call the Roselle Police Department at (908) 245-2000 or Crime Stoppers at (908) 654-TIPS.
