The family of detained Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich spoke with CNN on Thursday about his detention in Russia.

Gershkovich has ties to New Jersey. A Moscow court declined to hear an appeal last week.

Gershkovich is in jail on espionage charges.
