A Passaic County family is calling for justice nearly two months after their loved one was killed in a hit-and-run crash.
Kelly Vaughn Chalkley, 58, was struck and killed by a vehicle while walking her St. Bernard Misty in Mount Laurel Park in West Milford on Nov. 7.
Her husband Garey Chalkley says that his family had been coming to the park for 30 years.
"It's like our safe zone here," he says. "For that to happen, it's horrible."
West Milford police used surveillance footage and narrowed their search to a dark colored pickup which may have struck Kelly Vaughn Chalkley between 7:14 p.m. and 7:40 p.m. The police say the impact didn't appear intentional, but the driver should have known they hit something, and may be a local.
Kelly Vaughn Chalkley would have celebrated her 59th birthday soon. Her husband says that he wants the person who struck his wife to come forward. He says that act must be weighing heavily on their conscience.
"It's tough for us and it has to be tough for them," he says.
A $20,000 reward is being offered for information regarding the incident. Anyone who may have any information is asked to contact the West Milford Police at 973-728-2800 or the Passaic County Prosecutors Office at 877-370-7276.
