Are falling back into news 12 here. As many. Look forward to this time of season for the fun. Lauren do is that Battle View Orchards in Freehold this morning? And la all this talk about picking pumpkins and stuff. Are you going to be doing that this morning? Uh Of course, I am. I have my flannel so I better be I got boots on too. We have Kyle Applegate here with Battle View Orchards. It smells amazing in here. Fifth generation. I mean, this has been around for over 100 years. Correct. I'm so happy to show you around. Uh, this morning. Uh I'm gonna start off by showing uh deep, deep history and free old here. Uh We started with the first generation in 1908. He purchased the current farm we're farming today. Uh He started off as more of a general farm. Um And uh his neighbor said, hey, you should start trying to plant some apple trees and here we are today. Uh Five generations later. Um He had three kids, his one son, Leslie, which was my great grandfather. He uh took kind of the apple side of the farm to the next level, uh, planting a lot more apples, really learning the ins and outs of the business, uh, actually became the first future farmer of America, first national president. Um, he had two kids, which is my grandfather Norman and he Norman married my grandmother, Betty Lou, who's, which is the third generation. Um, they're the ones I actually, uh, my grandfather was selling wholesale apples and he had this kind of idea to start maybe selling to the people around him, maybe direct sales, which kind of started our present day, pick your own operation. Um He kind of did both wholesale and direct market and my, my Mimi kind of started actually retailing pies, doughnuts. Uh She's the one that kind of got the whole ball rolling on our retail side of our business. Um My parents kind of took tho those pick your own direct market sales and retail sales and kind of grown that part of the business. We no longer really wholesale any apples. And now we're here with myself the fifth generation. Uh happy to show you around this morning and uh we have some cider making going on. Uh we're making doughnuts, baking pies and getting open to pick apples. Amazing. Sounds like a fun morning. We're in Freehold, Lauren Dune, East 12 New Jersey.

Fall back into news 12. As many. Look forward to this time of year for some fall fun. Yeah, our Lauren do is at Battle View Orchards in Freehold, Lauren. It's a great spot and they have some really great apple cider there too. They do and we're gonna see how it's made. We're standing in the barn where it's made Kyle Applegate with us here, Applegate. Perfect. Last name for this. Right. Correct. Yeah, we've been making cider for a long time actually. Uh my great grandfather and uh uh grandfather started. So up here we're gonna dump the apples in uh it takes anywhere from 10 pounds to 15 pounds of apples to make one gallon of cider. So in other words, it takes a lot of apples to produce a lot of cider. We're gonna dump them in up there. They're gonna come up. This is our pick out table or elevator where we can cut anything that's bad or take them out, go through a washer, uh goes up this elevator here. This is our grinder. This is very loud and also talk about the apples. It looks like there's a lot of different varieties on there. Correct. So, the idea of when we make cider, we try to mix as how many different varieties as possible to get as many different uh textures and different varieties in one cider blend. Uh So Secret Sweet Apples make sweet cider. So we try to do that. Um They go up there, they get grinded in here. It comes out as a hummus. It's gonna come down and then it's gonna get pumped uh, into our, uh, a racking cloths here. Basically, it's, it's gonna come out as like a layer of a cake. You're gonna fold the cloths on top. Uh And then right now it's gonna get pushed in and squeezed out and then real quick, how does the end process work? Sure. So then we're gonna go up into our pool tanks. Um, then it's gonna come through and then it gets treated with a UV light treatment. Um, this is gonna zap any bacteria or any problems in there and it's gonna go up into our cool tank and it will be bottled the next day and then we drink it. We're having so much fun here. Time is 715. Let's fall back into news. 12. As many. Look forward to this time of year for that fall fun. Our Lauren De is at Battle View Orchards in Freehold where guests of all ages are invited to pick pumpkins and apples and yeah, you have to pick a pumpkin to carve it. Get it ready for Halloween, right. Lauren. Yeah, you totally do guys. You have to pick an apple and you have to pick some pumpkins Kyle. Let's do some apple picking. Sure, sure. We have plenty of apples. We grow over 25 different varieties of apples on 60 acres. So anything to choose from? Amazing. What's your favorite apple? What's my favorite apple? It depends on what type of maybe honey crisp, maybe some fuji. Yeah. Whatever, whatever I feel like you can tell the difference when you buy into an apple. Yes. Totally good. Looks like you have so many like still available. How long are you planning on doing apple right now? We're in our peak season. Not through the end of October. We have plenty of apples still to pick from uh along with plenty of pumpkins too. Yeah, it went off the, the pumpkins this morning. This is so good. It's not muddy. This is amazing. We try to keep it nice and dry for everybody. Awesome. Well, uh, what's, what's the best pumpkin in a car, would you say? Uh, anything that looks nice and solid? Um, you wanna maybe always make sure you check the bottoms, the bottoms don't, don't get rot from, you know. Well, it looks like you got some good pumpkins out here and you're open year round. So that must mean you do a lot of pick your own too. Right. Correct. So we'll start actually with strawberries in the spring. Uh, then we have a short window from strawberries to peaches and we have some sour cherries along with peaches all summer from the fourth of July to the middle of beginning of September. And now we start apples from the beginning of September through the end of October. And if you don't want to come out here and pick, you could just buy it at the store. Correct. Stores are retail year round along with all the apples that are grown here, we pick and put them in our retail too for you to buy. We are going to go back to the country store and I think we're going to make some donuts next. I think there we go guys. We're hanging out in free old today. Lauren do his 12

We're hungry this morning. I know. Look at all these donuts. We have Lisa, we traded A K for his good morning morning. Thanks for having us. Thank you. So we're making donuts this morning. Yes, we are. We are making our famous apple cider donuts that are made with a special formulation of our own mix as well as our apple cider, which I think you saw earlier and then we add some cinnamon mix it all up and then we bring it to our machines. Um We have actually two machines that run in our busy season because you're telling me there's lines, there's lines. So the lines actually during the weekends when we pick during our busy season, the lines form outside and then this is our hot donut window that all of the customers can come and pick up their hot doughnuts. What time do you open? We open at nine o'clock in the morning. Ok. And then the customer should always check to find out what time our, you know, our estimated time is for closing. But they are very, very popular. Look at this. This is like, it's so mesmerizing. It was a thing to watch how perfect they are. Yes, they are. Um And we also do a collaboration with Jersey Greece, which is also a very popular um Freehold business. So they do um a apple cider doughnut shake. So this is their ninth year of doing and it's one of their most popular shakes and it's only available in the month of October. Ok. So they have to go during October to get that shake. Um But yeah, they're, they're a hit. Definitely a hit. Everyone loves them, but you can get them with sugar and without sugar too, right? And you can grab one and take a box. I'm gonna do it. Back into news 12 as many look forward to this time of year for that fall fund. Our Lauren Des at Battle View Orchards in Freehold, and Lauren, you've been having so much fun this morning. There is so much to do here. The store smells amazing. I have 4th and 5th generation here. Batcher. It's 116 years this year. It's all about generations here. It is about generations and generations, not only our generations, but people that come to pick, so people that have come at a small age are now some of them are bringing their own grandchildren back, so it is generational in a lot of senses and. It's a happy place. It's a place to make memories which makes our job really easy because we're part of happy memories for for generations to come so yeah it's a it's a happy place with fun stuff to do and um great store to shop in. I know we made the cider with Kyle this morning. We made the doughnuts with you, Lisa, and you could go pick your pumpkins and your apples, right? Correct, yeah, yep, we're anticipating a busy weekend here, Columbus Day weekend. We're open Saturday, Sunday, and Monday to come out and pick. We have plenty of doughnuts, plenty of cider, and plenty of apples and pumpkins. And the weather's supposed to be beautiful, so come on down here again, the doughnuts, if you want to get them hot. Yes, you can get them and the cider, you warm up to. you can get that hot, cold, or slushed and you also have the pies. There's so much here. You just have to come down and check it out.
