A published report states years after September 11th, screeners are still failing to detect explosives at Newark Liberty International Airport.
The report says Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screeners missed 20 out of 22 fake devices used in undercover security tests more than a week ago. The TSA reportedly had people go through the airport?s three terminals with fake devices taped to their bodies, in carry-on luggage and other places. The report also says screeners failed to follow procedures when checking for prohibited items.
Many passengers are surprised and dismayed by the findings. Eric Tomlinson, who lives in Atlanta, says more emphasis needs to be placed on technology. Travelers say it?s a shame that billions of dollars later in security upgrades, Americans appear to be no safer.
A TSA spokeswoman told News 12 New Jersey the tests are designed to be challenging training experiences. She also said the TSA has more successes than failures and employees will learn from the latest exercise.
