A home in Pleasantville was destroyed after it went up in flames following reports of an explosion.

The fire broke out Tuesday at about 2:35 p.m. on New Jersey Avenue. According to Pleasantville Fire Chief Keven Vanegas, there were already flames throughout the structure as well as the exterior of the building when firefighters arrived.

"According to preliminary reports from dispatch, an explosion was heard prior to crews' arrival," the chief said.

First responders began battling the blaze inside the home, but the chief said conditions deteriorated quickly, prompting crews to be evacuated from the structure and continue firefighting operations from outside.

The chief said one firefighter suffered a minor injury during the incident. No civilians were injured.

Four people were displaced due to the fire, and officials said the Red Cross was notified and is assisting with temporary shelter, clothing and other necessities.

Fire crews from multiple surrounding towns also responded to provide assistance. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
