A former lover of the nurse accused of dismembering her husband took the stand Wednesday.
Dr. Bradley Miller told jurors he had an affair with Melanie McGuire, the woman accused of drugging, shooting and then sawing apart her husband's body in 2004. He says the affair began while they worked at a fertility clinic in Morristown and lasted for three years.
Authorities say McGuire's husband, William, went missing during the time of the affair. During testimony, prosecutors tried to show that McGuire killed her husband so she could marry Miller.
However, the defense poked holes in that theory when Miller told jurors he made it clear to McGuire that he never intended to leave his wife.
In addition to testifying, Miller agreed to help police by secretly recording two phone conversations with McGuire. In the recording, McGuire says investigators are making up lies about her to the grand jury.
McGuire remains out on bail while on trial.
