(01/30/06) UPPER MONTCLAIR ? Essex County is helping the famous Presby Memorial Iris Garden rebound from a vandalism incident with a $100,000 grant.
Last summer, vandals pulled out and cut many of the garden?s expensive specimens. The county has now stepped in with a grant that will be used to re-plant 2,000 irises. Although the garden is in Upper Montclair, county officials say the facility is important because it attracts visitors from all over the state.
The re-planting is slated to begin in July. The garden has been a staple of Upper Montclair since 1927.
