A beloved principal in Englewood is being remembered after she was killed in a car accident overseas.
Dr. Daniela Small-Bailey was a principal at the Dr. John Grieco Elementary School. Police say she died in a head-on collision with a squad car in South Africa on July 4. Her son, an officer and another woman were also killed in the crash, according to authorities.
The school released a statement saying in part that Small-Bailey was a pillar of the Englewood Public Schools community. She served the district for nearly two decades with a "vibrant and larger-than-life personality."
Small-Bailey was also the pastor at Bethel AME Church in Passaic.
A candlelight vigil is set for Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in front of the elementary school.
