Energy drink ban aims to nip addiction in the bud
Hillsborough Middle School has banned students from bringing energy drinks onto campus in an effort to stop student caffeine addiction in its tracks.
Hillsborough Middle School Principal Joseph Trybulski said students are getting hooked on caffeine younger and younger.
One student said her friends drink beverages loaded with caffeine because of the buzz it gives them and because of the commercials. High school sophomore Alex Karousatos said he can?t get through the day without 10 Red Bulls.
?I usually used to drink two and now it doesn't affect me,? Karousatos said. ?I have to keep drinking them."
A UMDNJ report found that 22 percent of students in central New Jersey drink energy drinks every day.
So far, no drinks have been confiscated at the middle school.
