Fake Twitter accounts can make for silly memes, but emergency services across the country are becoming increasingly concerned with the practice.
Public safety accounts have long used the social media platform to disseminate information during emergencies.
Now, they're urging the public to verify information that appears on their timeline to avoid any unnecessary or unfounded panics.
Twitter has begun adding an "official" label to some accounts, after troublemakers began abusing the website's new verification feature.
