Two parked cars in Elmwood Park were destroyed by a fire Friday caused by downed power lines at the intersection of E. 54th and Franklin Street.

Authorities say an “energized electric wire” was found on the vehicles. Due to heavy winds, Elmwood Park firefighters used a firefighting hose to protect the nearby homes in the area from fire.

PSE&G secured the power to the wires. Once the power was secured, firefighters extinguished the vehicles.

No injuries were reported.

The intersection of E54th and Franklin Street reopened after being closed due to the fire.

Authorities are reminding community residents to stay away from any downed wires as they may be energized, remain inside and call 911.
