It was a historic day for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, as the
Elizabeth Marine Terminal welcomed one of the largest container ships ever to
call on any East Coast port.
A number of people were around the area of Veterans Park near
the Bayonne Bridge taking pictures of the CMA CHM Marco Polo.
"I
tracked it since it left Halifax and it's really interesting to see," says Linda Beninghove, of Bayonne. "I just went down to the Bayonne
Bridge to take pictures so it was really beautiful seeing it come under the
bridge and see I guess, the culmination of all that hard work when they raised
the roadway. It's a huge project."
The ship can carry as many as over 16,000 shipping containers,
which is significantly more than a lot of the ships that dock in the area.
