The Point Pleasant Fire Department extinguished an electrical fire Saturday afternoon on board a North Jersey Coast Line train bound for Long Branch.
NJ Transit says the train had departed from Bay Head at 12:30 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Long Branch just before 1:10 p.m.
The fire took place in the vestibule stairwell between the first and second cars, near the Washington Avenue crossing.
A News 12 viewer, @StJimmyFishing on YouTube, took video of smoke escaping one of the NJ Transit cars while the train was stopped.
There were no reported injuries to the 30 customers and crew on board.
Train service was temporarily stopped but has since resumed. NJ Transit Police were on scene and led the investigation.
