One person is dead and a house is destroyed after a fire in Cedar Grove Wednesday.
An elderly woman was killed in the blaze that broke out on Montclair Avenue. Her husband was rushed to Mountainside Hospital with various injuries from the smoke and flames. A neighbor told News 12 New Jersey that a fireman said the couple did make it out of the house, but the woman went back in for something.
Fire officials believe the fire began on the first floor, where the victim was found, and may have been caused by something electrical. Firefighters were also trying to determine if the home had smoke alarms and if it did, if they were working.
A neighbor says the couple lived in the house for about 50 years.
