The United States Department of Agriculture says that the price of eggs won’t be coming down any time soon. It says that the prices may actually be going up amid a shortage.
News 12 went to a shop in Wyckoff where a dozen eggs cost $7.50. Shoppers in Paramus said the store shelves were empty of eggs.
“That's egg-flation!” said one shopper. “[Eggs are] a big part of my diet, but I think we’re going to have to pump the brakes on the eggs for a minute.”
The USDA says egg prices could rise another 20%. A national bird flu outbreak is behind the shortage.
According to the Consumer Price Index, egg prices are up more than 36% from a year ago.
